What changes have you noticed since you started RPO?

Since we started RPO within our site we have seen a huge improvement in our engagement survey scores which is set out by Group. We recently picked up an award for having the highest improvement out of our sector. Besides the award and the recognition that I have had from my peers, it’s the changes that we’ve seen within our team leaders that’s the most tangible one. By that I mean I’ve now got a group of team leaders that accept they are junior managers and they talk like junior managers. They accept that they’ve got responsibility for the team’s development and the accountability of achieving the KPI’s. I’ve never had KPI’s in my team structure previously. So I suppose the RPO has helped me get the team leaders to a state where I want them to be and be able to introduce the change in an accepted manner.

 

How do you think other companies might benefit from RPO?

I think in today’s climate – business climate that is – most businesses are lucky to be able to reduce costs, maintain efficiency and reduce waste. In other words, increase their cost competitiveness. It can only go so far with machinery. What this has done has helped bridge a gap between engagement with machinery and engagement in getting people to go the extra mile. I think the whole frame work has created clarity as to what, as plant manager, I expect people to do, why are we coming to work? What are we here to achieve? People know that we’re a business, people know understand and accept that the business success has got a direct relationship to us being here in 10 or 20 years time. I think that’s what RPO has helped to create.
